DriveCam to Present at the American Public Works Association (APWA) “Best Show in Public Works”

International Congress and Exposition August 25-28, 2013 in Chicago

August 16, 2013 – San Diego, Calif. – DriveCam, Inc., a global driver risk management company, will present at the American Public Works Association (APWA) “Best Show in Public Works” Annual International Congress and Exposition August 25-28 in Chicago, IL.  Josh Botnen, senior product manager for DriveCam, will present “Beyond Telematics: Using Data to Predict the Future” to share how video-based behavior data can help fleets to improve driving behavior and mitigate risk.

Vehicle Telematics is a way of monitoring the location, movements, status and behavior of a vehicle or fleet of vehicles. But, in today’s world, public works fleet managers need to know much more than “there was a hard brake at 3:00 PM on Main Street.” Video-based behavior data provides the inputs needed to predict collisions and differentiate between good and problem drivers. By knowing what actually caused that hard brake, fleets can focus their efforts on improving driver behavior to reduce collisions and operational costs. At the conclusion of DriveCam’s presentation, attendees will be better able to identify risky driving behaviors throughout their fleet and improve driver performance by targeting risky behaviors, thereby reducing collisions and operational costs.

Josh Botnen is a Senior Product Manager for DriveCam, Inc. focused on data and analytics. During his time at DriveCam, he has analyzed risky driving behaviors across a number of industry segments including trucking, transit, waste, utilities and municipal government fleets. He was recently named Top Graduate of the 2013 Certified Transportation Professional graduating class and is Pragmatic Marketing certified. His achievements in helping DriveCam serve the public works industry include detailed analysis and research for public works clients focused on identifying and mitigating risky driving behavior to help reduce collision risk.

For more than 100 years, the APWA International Public Works Congress and Exposition has drawn thousands of public works professionals from all over the world. APWA’s Congress features more than 125 technical and professional development sessions presented by public works colleagues and industry vendors. This year’s event will feature more than 400 exhibitors showcasing on a 90,000 square-foot exhibit floor.

DriveCam improves safety by combining data and video analytics with real-time driver feedback and coaching, resulting in reductions in collision-related costs and fuel consumption. Using its patented Driver Science Engine®, the DriveCam solution scores, prioritizes and tracks the results of driving behaviors to identify behavioral improvement opportunities for increased safety.  In-cab video captures driving behavior, which is objectively reviewed and scored, then passed on to the fleet for use in coaching drivers.

Fleets manage the DriveCam Program through DriveCam Online®, a web-based online portal. When seamlessly integrated with DriveCam’s video event recorder and the DriveCam Online reporting solution, DriveCam’s Fuel Management Solution combines real-time, in-cab feedback with online reporting and coaching to improve fuel efficiency – by up to 12 percent – and lower emissions. Unlike other vehicle-centric fuel solutions, DriveCam’s solution focuses on the driver – specifically on the three driving behaviors that have the greatest impact on fuel efficiency: efficient or “smooth” driving, idling and speeding.
