National Safety Council Award Goes to Teen Safe Driver Program

American Family Insurance Recognized for Leadership with DriveCam Program

SAN DIEGO – October 4, 2010 – The National Safety Council has selected American Family Insurance as a recipient of their 2010 Teen Driving Safety Leadership Award.  American Family’s Teen Safe Driving Program makes the DriveCam video feedback program available at no charge to all of its families with insured teen drivers.

“Traffic crashes are the leading cause of teen fatalities” said John Ulczycki, Group Vice President of the National Safety Council. “We selected American Family Insurance for its leadership in making a program available to parents that can help save the lives of teens and those who share the road with them.”

“With more than 60 million miles driven by teens using this video feedback program, there have been five fewer deaths than the six that would otherwise have been expected using FARS statistical data for 16-17 year old drivers,” says Brandon Nixon, DriveCam’s CEO.  “Saving five lives and 500 injuries is due to safer driving and seat belt usage as a result of this program.”

“American Family is dedicated to helping families protect the ones they love, which makes this honor especially meaningful to us,” said Lisa Bacus, vice president marketing, American Family. “The Teen Safe Driver Program was designed to get parents and teens talking about the issues that beginning drivers face behind the wheel.”
